Cassandra over at Villainous Company has a great post on staying focussed on the issues rather than get all wrapped up in battling the insults. She’s absolutely right. Conservatives spend far too much time replying to accusations of racism, sexism, homophobia and every other ad hominem attack that has become the Left’s stock in trade. When debating an issue a personal attack is the last resort of someone who doesn’t have a substantive argument to make. Conservatives do have ideas, and good ones, but allow themselves to get embroiled in endless defensive arguments about the merit of the insult rather than the issue. The approach she proposes is to ignore the insult as it is irrelevant and only wastes time. Present the idea and bolster it with facts and logic. Stay on message and repeat it over and over.
Sounds like a plan.
